Mario Cuomo Bridge Bike and Walk Path

In 2017, the Governor Mario Cuomo Bridge replaced the iconic but decaying Tappan Zee Bridge, the main bridge that connects Westchester County (Tarrytown) to Rockland County (Nyack).

The new bridge is a stunning two cabled-stayed bridge (one of the widest such bridges in the world) and it is equipped with LED lights that can be programmed to feature different colors to celebrate holidays and events. Supposedly the system even has the ability to sync the lights to music.

As of June 15th, the Cuomo Bridge has also been enhanced by the completion of a 3.6 mile dual purpose bike and walking path. The path, marked in blue with clear lanes for bikes vs. pedestrians is beautiful and complimented by art sculptures and six different viewing points along the way.

Given the large length of the path, I recommend bringing your bike (or leaving whiny kids at home - lol). Signs at the entrance (aka Westchester Landing) suggest a one-way walk over the bridge takes 80 minutes! We only made it a small distance on our visit, particularly given it was a hot, humid afternoon.

To add to the fun, various food trucks are stationed at the Westchester and Rockland Landings. We saw a few on our visit, including Blue Pig Ice Cream (store in Croton), whose yummy treats helped us cool down. Blue Pig plans to be at the Westchester Landing each Thursday through Sunday this summer!

The path is open from 6am to 10pm daily. There are public restrooms at both Landings but NONE along the path itself.
