The Pottery Factory
A pottery studio is not all that hard to come by in the suburbs. But The Pottery Factory in Mount Kisco is so much more than pottery. As its name implies, the Pottery Factory does in fact have a huge wall of ceramics to paint, but it also offers candle making, soap making and glass fusing!
On our initial visit, we painted our own pottery and made some candles. The pottery works pretty simply. Guests pick out their ceramic piece of choice, find an open work table and then head up to the self-service Paint Bar to pick out paints and brushes. Think of that bar like a buffet - you’re free to come back as often as you’d like (I LOVED this aspect - other studios make you flag down stuff every time you need more paint). When your ceramic piece is painted to your liking, it’s left with the Pottery Factory to be finished in the kiln and picked up by you another day.
This was our first time ever making candles. Here, guests pick a tin candle mold and then start filling it with their preferred mix of colored blocks of candle pieces which will ultimately be fused together to make a solid candle. (Instead of picking out those small blocks, older guests can choose to carve their own small blocks from larger bricks of candle). On the edges of or on top of your candle, guests can also add candle pieces pre-designed into awesome shapes like hearts, dinosaurs and even dollar signs, which give the candle extra personality.
The Pottery Factory is open for walk ins - making it perfect for a last minute adventure on a cold or rainy day. We had a blast and can’t wait to come back to make soap and fuse glass!
The Pottery Factory has two locations in Mt. Kisco, NY and Brookfield, CT.
