Catch a Bridgeport Sound Tigers Game Plus Some Extras

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers play minor league hockey at the Webster Bank Arena, which is literally steps from Exit 27 on I-95. Their games are easy to get to and a lot of fun for all ages. AND, if you read on, I have a few little extra perks for you.

The Sound Tigers

Since 2001, the Sound Tigers have been a member of the American Hockey League and they are affiliated with and have been owned since their inception by, the NHL’s New York Islanders!! Whether it’s because the Islanders are the ONLY professional sports team this LI born chick has ever been obsessed with, or because it’s just a fun family friendly sporting event to have nearby, I really like going to see the Sound Tigers. Note the Islanders’ main rival, the New York Rangers, are affiliated with the Sound Tiger’s main rival team, CT’s Hartford Wolf Pack!

As most anyone who’s been to a professional sporting event before knows, at a Sound Tigers game, you can expect the usual: a sporting game (this one includes ice and hockey sticks), lots of beer, some hot dogs and pretzels and usually a few fun things like giveaways, musical chants and appearances by the team mascot. In this case, the Sound Tiger’s mascot is a cute blue tiger named Storm.

Take Your Kids for Kid Friendly Themed Game

To add to the fun, the Sound Tigers regularly host themed games. Some such themed games are particularly geared towards kids. For just $25 a person, the whole family can have a great night out. These games include cute extras to get the little ones excited to join the fun.

In the past, we’ve done the Frozen themed night - we got great seats, we met Ana and Elsa and my girls got cute Frozen swag to take home. Already this season, the Sound Tigers have hosted a Peppa Pig and PJ Masks night game and a Harry Potter night game.

Next up, on Saturday, January 19th, join the Sound Tigers for their Star Wars Night! For that same $25 a person, guests receive entry to the 7pm game against Providence and a voucher for a hot dog, chips and soda. AND come early because the first 3,000 fans will be gifted a light saber! Your favorite Star Wars characters will also be on hand to greet fans as well.

The Sound Tigers will host similar themed events throughout the season. Look for Princess Night on Saturday, March 30th (guests get light up wands!) and Marvel Night on Saturday, April 6th (meet Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Ant Man and Black Panther! And your ticket includes a voucher to see the newest Avengers movie at any Bow Tie Cinema!!)

Grab Some Good Brews and Eats Before Your Game

If a snack bar hot dog isn’t your dream dinner, consider visiting Brewport before or after your hockey game for some really tasty thin crust pizza and - you guessed it - brews.  Like the Webster Bank Arena, Brewport is also mere seconds from Exit 27 on I-95, so it truly makes for a perfect combination with any events at the Arena.

Brewport opened its doors in Summer 2016 and has since been serving the somewhat unlikely but very much appreciated combination of New Haven style artisanal thin crust pizza and craft beers, in a space that was formerly a distribution center for local newspapers.

While the restaurant does offer hard liquor and wine as well a signature cocktail menu, the liquid focus at Brewport is craft beer. Brewport is a brewpub which means it not only offers food and drink but it brews its own beer on site (aka its a working brewery). Brewport will always offer a selection of its own house beers, and well as a nicely curated list of craft beers from other notable breweries in the Northeast.

The food menu is focused around those thin crust pies, available as preconceived Specialty Pies or a “make your own” variety. To balance out all those carbs in pizza and beer, Brewport also has individual and family sized salads on offer.

Brewport is a large space so while it may get more adult-oriented as the night goes on, there are sure to be kids there in the afternoon and early evening hours.
