The New York Hall of Science opened in 1964 as part of the World’s Fair and as one of the first hands-on science museums in the country. Today, NYSci is still a really cute place to visit with young kids on a cold, rainy or wintry day….....OR
You could follow our lead and visit on a beautiful spring or summer Saturday. There are some cool things happening right outside NYSci in nice weather. Read on
Playgrounds and parenting go hand-in-hand in warmer weather. Young kids just absolutely love climbing, sliding and spinning their way through spring and summer. When we visit the city in nice weather, we always include a playground - preferably, a really good playground - to sweeten the deal for our kids.
So I hereby present to you my personal favorite NYC playgrounds I’ve visited so far as a parent. I would call each of these a “Destination Playground,” very much worthy of a visit. And as a fun little added bonus, I’ve included a solid family friendly food stop nearby each playground.
There are still many good playgrounds I haven’t hit yet in NYC, so please send me any recommendations in the comments!
Read MoreApril is a month where a lot of folks wake up from their winter hibernation to once again head outdoors and enjoy some fresh air again. And knowing this, many seasonal businesses choose April as the time to re-open for the warm weather season.
We will be missing many of these openings given our trip to Hawaii (woot! woot!), but you certainly do not have to miss the fun. Here are a bunch of cool things opening for the season this April. Let me know in the comments if you make it to any of these while I’m away. I can’t wait to check them out when we’re back.
Read MoreThis year we’ll be in Hawaii (!!!) for Passover and Easter. Yup, you’ll be seeing more hula dances than bunnies and Seder plates at Donuts at the Disco this April. But this spring loving mama is still keeping tabs on the fun spring happenings in our area. Here are some of the events I am most bummed about missing (in chronological order).
Read MoreWe may not always get gorgeous weather here in the northeast but when we do get it, we enjoy the heck out of it. Yes, we appreciate sunny days because we know they’re not always here to stay.
Here are some great ways to get outside on a beautiful day and enjoy the sunshine and warmth! I will continually update this as we explore more of the great outdoors!

Read MoreUgh math. It always was my least favorite school subject. Even now, while I mostly read and write as a corporate lawyer, I cringe whenever calculations sneak their way into my job. But my second grader is learning so much about math at school now, so I figured a visit to the Museum of Math in NYC was in order.

We recently saw our first children’s show at Manhattan’s Symphony Space. The Doubtful Sprout, a one woman puppet show by Liz Joyce, was an absolute JOY(ce) to watch.
Though this show has moved on, Symphony Space continues to offer family focused performances each Saturday through the cold winter months as part of their ongoing, Just Kidding Series. And if you’re a Westchester or Fairfield County family like we are, driving to Symphony Space is a snap. Located at 95th and Broadway, the theater is not too far from our northern suburban towns!
Read MoreLast summer I wrote a post about our family’s day in Astoria, Queens. The post mentioned our “signature” move of combining a kid-friendly activity with nearby adult-friendly eats or drinks. This weekend we took that same move to neighboring Long Island City, Queens and had a colder, but equally awesome day in Queens with our kids.
Read MoreI love the Children’s Museum of the Arts. I think it’s my favorite child oriented museum in the area. It’s not huge and it’s not somewhere you’d aim to visit monthly, but it’s such a special little place. It makes me happy whenever we visit. Art is such an important part of childhood, so having a place that dedicates itself to celebrating childhood art is just fantastic.
The CMA is located on Charlton Street on the west side of Lower Manhattan (West SoHo). I’ve been taking my girls since my older one was a wee toddler. It’s been awesome getting to see how she experiences the museum’s offerings as she grows.

Read MoreI’m a mom. I’m a corporate lawyer. I really like to explore, eat and travel and I also like to plan where I’m going to eat, where I’m going to explore and where I’m going to travel. I hate the gym but also hate sitting still. I love NYC and try to get there often. My kids see me on my phone a lot looking at pictures of food, pop ups and dogs.
I started this blog because I was sending too many one-off emails to friends with suggestions on what to do and where to go. My posts are not intended to be full fledged reviews, but rather quick glimpses of what I've been up to. Hopefully posts will inspire you to check out some of those same things.
