Get Your Summer Vibes On With These Meals

Get Your Summer Vibes On With These Meals

When the temperatures rise, this mama craves refreshing cocktails and lighter meals served in an outdoor oasis. Though many spots will offer these things, only a handful do it well - rubbery chicken with water views just doesn’t cut it. Luckily, I’ve rounded up a list of restaurants where you can celebrate summer AND eat and drink tasty things!

Wow, Warwick is Wonderful!

Wow, Warwick is Wonderful!

Warwick, NY is yet another small, (barely) upstate New York town that I’m now smitten with.

Known for its farming community, a fall festival called “Applefest” and a drive in theater that has been around way before the entire country turned to “drive ins” in an effort to continue business in the time of COVID, Warwick is only about an hour fifteen from Manhattan.

I’d been a few times previously to visit a friend in town, but this was our first time truly soaking up Warwick. We had a LOT of fun.

Whether you are a city-dweller looking for a serene, tree-lined break from the rat race, or a suburbanite looking for more art and culture, Governors Island fits the bill. A Few Great September Events

A Few Great September Events

Is it still summer or is it fall? Will it be hot outside or will there be a chill in the air? Should I wear jeans or shorts? These are questions we ask this time of year - and I don’t have the answers. I can, however, help with the question of what to do as a family this September. See below!

Sunday Morning at Elephant's Trunk Flea Market

Sunday Morning at Elephant's Trunk Flea Market

Elephant’s Trunk is a huge and well known flea market in New Milford, CT. As a person who likes modern design, I don’t usually seek out antiques or vintage stuff. But as an activity blogger living in CT, I knew I must check this spot out.

Elephant’s Trunk is open only on Sunday mornings from early April until early December. The flea market started in 1976 with just a handful of vendors, but these days around 500 vendors and food trucks greet huge crowds each Sunday.

Five NYC Destination Playgrounds

Five NYC Destination Playgrounds

Playgrounds and parenting go hand-in-hand in warmer weather. Young kids just absolutely love climbing, sliding and spinning their way through spring and summer. When we visit the city in nice weather, we always include a playground - preferably, a really good playground - to sweeten the deal for our kids.

So I hereby present to you my personal favorite NYC playgrounds I’ve visited so far as a parent. I would call each of these a “Destination Playground,” very much worthy of a visit.  And as a fun little added bonus, I’ve included a solid family friendly food stop nearby each playground.

There are still many good playgrounds I haven’t hit yet in NYC, so please send me any recommendations in the comments!

Don't Miss These April Season Openings

April is a month where a lot of folks wake up from their winter hibernation to once again head outdoors and enjoy some fresh air again. And knowing this, many seasonal businesses choose April as the time to re-open for the warm weather season.

We will be missing many of these openings given our trip to Hawaii (woot! woot!), but you certainly do not have to miss the fun. Here are a bunch of cool things opening for the season this April. Let me know in the comments if you make it to any of these while I’m away. I can’t wait to check them out when we’re back.

Tap-A-Tree This Winter!

Tap-A-Tree This Winter!

If you’re living in the Northeast suburbs, what better way is there to experience winter than to Tap-A-Tree? Several places in the area celebrate the delicious maple syrup season but my personal favorite happens at Wilton, CT’s Ambler Farm. This months long event is adorable and popular. Find out all the details below and be sure to sign up on January 17th.
