Taco Tuesday

It's Tuesday, today actually resembles summer and we all need tacos. Here are a few local spots where I like to get my taco fix. Plus a bonus spot to haul your butt to for when you need killer tacos in NYC.

Rincón Taqueria

Sorry to sound like a broken record but the food is undeniably good in Norwalk and Rincón Taqueria is a perfect example of that good food. They serve burritos larger than your head and a full menu of Mexican classics (including, my personal weakness, Mexican breakfast items like Chilaquiles and Huevos Rancheros). As for tacos, Rincón offers them in fish, chicken, beef, pork and bean varieties. Prices are extremely low for the quality and huge portion size. The spot is waitress service but casual, airy and kid friendly.

El Charrito

What began as a popular food truck and then as an oddly placed take out operation in residential Riverside, CT, El Charrito finally has a proper counter service spot in Stamford to sit down and enjoy their tacos from.  Tacos here come in every variety imaginable from simple Tinga Chicken (shredded chicken marinated in Chipotle sauce and sauteed onion) or Res (steak) to the more adventurous Oreja (pig ear) and Buche (pig tummy). Without a doubt my favorite is their Carnitas (pork) taco - I can eat about a million of them. I usually also add in a fish taco or two for good measure. Yum.

Halstead Ave Taqueria

If you're like me, then you like your tacos with a side of a refreshing agua fresca. Halstead Ave Taqueria in Harrison, NY makes great tacos  as well as delicious juices and aguas frescas. I'm a sucker for their Pineapple Crush made with pineapple, cinnamon, lime juice, cane sugar and water. The same folks recently opened the Taco Shack in Port Chester, a slightly more upscale, sit down version of the original that brings with it a similar taco and juice focused menu.

Taqueria La Picardia

Also in Port Chester, Taqueria La Pircardia is another good option if you're headed to the very nearby Capital Theater or just generally craving tacos at any hour of the day. If you dine in on a Tuesday, select tacos are just $1 each until 10pm!! Picardia is also open 24 hours (!!!!) for all your late night taco cravings!

Casa Villa

We've been ordering delivery and grabbing take out at Casa Villa's West Stamford location since we first moved to CT in 2011. It always hits the spot. My usual order is the fajita platter but the Tres Tacos Con Arroz y Frijoles is my husband's go to order (and at $12 it makes for a perfect weeknight dinner).  Casa Villa has a second sit down location also in Stamford closer to Exit 9 on I-95.

Annnd a bonus round!

Manhattan's Los Tacos No. 1 with locations in Chelsea (inside Chelsea Market) and Times Square is so super killer good, you may just need to make the trip there next time the Taco Tuesday craving hits. Both locations are counter service only - you order with the cashier, hand your receipt to the chefs and they will create your taco in a corn or white flour tortilla with any fixings you ask for. These sloppy numbers are absolutely heavenly. I’ve yet to try their fish taco spot Los Marioscos (also in Chelsea Market), but it’s high on my to do list. If only they'd come to Midtown East.
