Valentines Day Reminds Me of Chocolate

Cold out? Kids off from school? Valentines Day around the corner? I have an idea for you. Bring them to Chocolate Works, where they can make and decorate their own adorable chocolate molds. It’ll be fun AND you can call it their Valentines Day gift!

Note: This post is about Chocolate Works in Darien, CT, which unfortunately closed in 2020. Chocolate Works is a national chain and some or all of the below may apply globally.

Fun Activity

The Darien location of Chocolate Works is quite large and includes a spacious private room in the back. That very room was the scene of my older kid’s 5th birthday. (The birthday parties are essentially a group version of what I describe below).

All along the sidewall of the private room are chocolate molds of all kinds of objects in all kinds of shapes and sizes. Your kid will pick one and it’ll probably be either the largest one on offer or the most plain and boring one on offer. Once the mold is selected, grab a mini apron for your child and get ready for some fun.

With staff assistance, your child will fill his mold with a hot liquid chocolate using a high tech machine and, if he wants candies added to the mold, there’s a separate conveyor belt machine for that.

The chocolate is then put in a freezer of sorts and when sufficiently cooled, your child can decorate the exterior with colored frostings. The final product can then be put in a cute little cellphone bag to take home as a treat.

While their website says they allow drop in visits, I suggest calling Chocolate Works before heading over to ensure there’s no private party or other event going on that would impact your visit. Assuming no major crowds or delays, the whole process takes about an hour.

Tasty Chocolate

The front part of Chocolate Works is a giant chocolate and candy retail store and without a doubt, your kid will want to have at it. I leave this part to you but be prepared for them to grab a bag and start hitting the candy by the pound section HARD.

While your chocolate mold cools, your kid can also hit the Chocolate Fountain to dip a banana or pretzel for a small fee. Another fun and delicious little activity.
