I Love Halloween!

I Love Halloween!

Halloween might be my favorite holiday. No, I'm not one of those old folks who still loves to get dressed up - but I think it is so much fun seeing my kiddies get excited to pick out costumes, and run around like crazy persons in pursuit of free candy. As they get a bit older, it'll be cool to add some haunted houses to our Halloween rotation. Basically, I gotta take it all in before they learn that Halloween also means sexy costumes and keg stands.

On that note - here are some great Halloween celebrations happening in our area!

Sunday Morning at Elephant's Trunk Flea Market

Sunday Morning at Elephant's Trunk Flea Market

Elephant’s Trunk is a huge and well known flea market in New Milford, CT. As a person who likes modern design, I don’t usually seek out antiques or vintage stuff. But as an activity blogger living in CT, I knew I must check this spot out.

Elephant’s Trunk is open only on Sunday mornings from early April until early December. The flea market started in 1976 with just a handful of vendors, but these days around 500 vendors and food trucks greet huge crowds each Sunday.

PEZ Are Made in CT!

PEZ Are Made in CT!

I only learned recently that PEZ Candies are made less than an hour from my house! Not only that, but there’s a PEZ Visitor Center with fun goings on less than an hour from my house! The good news for me is that I don’t eat candies that aren’t made of chocolate. The bad news for me is that the same does not apply to my kids. They love PEZ and so, off we went recently to check out the PEZ Visitor Center in Orange, CT.

Man, I Love Halloween

Man, I Love Halloween

Now that I have kids, Halloween might be my favorite holiday. No, I'm not one of those old folks who still loves to get dressed up. But I think it is so much fun watching the kiddies get so excited to pick their costumes and later, to run around like crazy persons in pursuit of free candy. As they get a bit older, it'll be cool to add some haunted houses to our Halloween rotation. Gotta take it all in before they learn that Halloween means sexy costumes and keg stands.

On that note, here are some do not miss Halloween celebrations happening in the tri-state area!

Get a Sitter: Because The Whelk is My Favorite

Get a Sitter: Because The Whelk is My Favorite

If you follow local food news at all, then you already know that Chef Bill Taibe is a rock star around these parts. If you don’t follow local food news, then I’m here to tell you that Bill Taibe is a rock star around these parts.

A James Beard Award Semifinalist for multiple years, Chef Taibe is the real deal. His three* [some signs indicate there’s another on the horizon!!] restaurants, all in Westport, CT, are so damn good, they’re not only worth traveling to, but I believe they rival some of the best of NYC dining. The Whelk, the oldest of the three operating restaurants (RIP Le Farm), is my personal favorite and especially shines in warmer weather. Read on for more details.

Who Doesn't Love Noodles?

Who Doesn't Love Noodles?

Mecha Noodle Bar is tasty and kid friendly. And lucky for me, my particular kids really like rice and noodles (mostly plain rice and plain noodles, but I take what I can get). So a visit to Mecha works for the whole family.

What began in 2013 in Fairfield as a spin off restaurant to Danbury’s Pho Vietnam, Mecha is now a Fairfield County “mini-chain” with locations in Fairfield, South Norwalk and New Haven.  Mecha mixes Restaurateur Tony Pham’s Vietnamese heritage (pho!) with Japanese ramen and other Asian street foods like dumplings and bao. And it does this in happening, relaxed spaces with cool music in the background and super friendly servers who go out of their way to make sure you’re having a good time.

Feed Your Kids in East Norwalk

Feed Your Kids in East Norwalk

I’m a city girl at heart and for a small city in CT, Norwalk packs a lot of punch. Every local parent owes some of his or her sanity to Stepping Stones Museum and the Maritime Aquarium - two spots in South Norwalk (aka SoNo), a fantastic neighborhood to walk around and eat and drink your way through.

Some of the best food in Fairfield County is in Norwalk - I can rattle off a dozen places in Norwalk that are far better than what we have in Greenwich. Here's one Norwalk eating experience that will satisfy your entire family this summer.

Kent Falls Brewing is Rad

 Kent Falls Brewing is Rad

We recently carted the kids to a brewery about 75 minutes away. I think you should, too! Kent Falls Brewing Co. is an “American Farm Brewery.” Loosely translated, Kent Falls was a farm before it was a brewery and today, it’s both a working farm and a working brewery. The brewery part opened about three years ago and the whole thing is located in picturesque Litchfield County, CT.
